This duet for flute and piano was written in 2024, as I began refining my techniques as a composer. It was written not just with its title in mind, but also with memories of a promise made between myself and my friends. Many years ago, we gave ourselves a challenge together, “to shine just as brightly as the stars”. All this time later, we strive for that goal in our own ways. This piece pays homage to them and their light. It is broken up into three short movements: an openly melodic lullaby, a waltz-like dance, and an ascending folk-style song. Each holds things unique to them. But throughout, there remains connections unshaken.
